Where does one begin when talking about yet another Scarlett Drake book that utterly changed my life. I’m not being dramatic or anything.
Before I jump into my legitimate review it’s only fair I share the mini version of it for you to understand just why you need to grab this book right away!
A MASTERPIECE! A TRUE WORK OF ART! FROM START TO FINISH!
For fans (and obsessive lovers of Hamartia) meeting Nico and Felix will leave you captivated, breathless and on the floor begging Scarlett for more.
For fans (and trauma victims, I’m kidding!!) of Oleander, Limerence will be the breath of fresh air to heal your soul and have you smiling and swooning instead of crying. So invest in a good air con system guys, you’re gonna need it 🥵
This is by far Scarlett Drake’s most pivotal piece of work, with an awe-inspiring balance of comedic genius, sentimental rivalry and the filthiest spicy moments you can imagine (I mean you can’t even begin to imagine what goes on in this book, darling 🫠).
I was blessed to read it early so am totally not biased when I say this has been my whole entire personality for the last month, and foreseeable future. Join me and make it your entire life this Feb 25th!! 🩰
Now that the screaming is out, where do I begin…
Nico seems like a good place. Baby Nico, I have to admit he stole my heart at first meet. I wanted to protect him, coddle him, make sure no one did a bad thing to him. However, little did I know there was a different star to this show.
Felix, Nico’s ultimate rival. He had worked as hard as Nico to get to the position he was in within the world. They both respected one another, but it’d be unfair to say they didn’t have an itch of hatred, seeing as they’ve been on every walk of their career crossing paths.
When one day Nico ends up at London Ballet Academy standing next to Felix, he finds it easy to admit he is not happy he’s here. The break from his career was one thing, but to now turn up on Felix’s turf? Yeah, Nico had it coming.
Felix tries his best to not make it easy for Nico to be in his space. Yet he doesn’t realise there’s more than one reason why he finds him the perfect opponent. As they say, love and hate is a very fine line.
As the story progresses we get to see Felix take the shining spotlight. He isn’t the one you expect to steal you heart, but with his witt and charm, you can’t deny he is the star in everyone’s life. Not just his own.
Behind the smiles isn’t a perfect man, but he tries, and Nico sees that. He wants to nurture and watch Felix shine, if only he’d give him the chance to be the support system he needs.
Nico and Felix have a beautiful love story, there’s a lot of arguing, lot of love, lots of jokes and just a lot of warmth. They may be rivals but they respect one another deeply.
A scene that lives with me is during their Vogue Photoshoot. I won’t go into detail but for me, it’s pivitol for their viewpoints of one another. It shows they are more than what they share on the surface and perhaps they can get along, if they try.
Besides the wonderful leads, there are supporting cast members. I won’t mention them all but will give a grand applause to Sir Christian Darling. I wasn’t sure what to make of you, and I do apologise for anything I may have questioned you of being. You were a saving grace and without you, this story wouldn’t have been nearly as enjoyable as it was.
The characters may be the stars of the show but without the author, they wouldn’t be here. Scarlett Drake continues to take my breath away every chance she gets. We not only get a few mentions to my beloved Jae and Rapha from Hamartia, but also get to meet characters that may just rival my love for Hamartia.
Yes I’m not kidding.
Limerence, is show stopping, jaw dropping and Scarlett at her comedic best. It’s a romcom at heart, with a blast of spice and warmth.
If you want a well balanced read, that will keep you enthralled from start to finish, this is it!
Special Mention:
I am thankful to have played a small part in this story as the Graphic Designer to bring the Cover and Formatting to life. Those involved know there were bumps in the road but we overcame them gracefully (and a bit stressfully lol).
I am also very grateful to be given the honour of the dedication. As a reader for my whole life, I didn’t think I’d ever get bestowed such an honour. It’s especially meaningful as Limerence was a labour of love both from a writing and designing pov; and this book gets to sit next to the story that started it all, Hamartia. I don’t know where I’d be without that little book and not having Scarlett in my life. On top of this, Hamartia is dedicated to now a good friend of mine too. It just feels very special and I don’t think a day will go by where I don’t look at Limerence and feel immense gratitude for where life has taken me.
Thank you, Scarlett (you trust me blindly everytime and fill that Jimin void as we wait for his return). Thank you Stacey (you keep me sane everyday). And Thank you Clo (your friendship means the world to me, even if you do bully me on occasion).
